COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 234 04 <br /> RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN <br /> <br /> AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF HAWAII DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, <br /> PURSUANT TO HRS 46-7, FOR THE BEVERAGE CONTAINER DEPOSIT LAW <br /> DEMONSTRATION PROJECT GRANT <br /> WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii Department of Health (DOH) has authorized funding towards <br /> the County of Hawaii Department of Environmental Management's Beverage Container Deposit Law <br /> Demonstration Project; and <br /> WHEREAS, the grant funds will be used to pay a vendor to coordinate and host the temporary <br /> redemption center(s) and to pay redemption fees to residential patrons for the purpose of promoting <br /> public awareness of the Beverage Container Deposit Law; and <br /> WHEREAS, results of the project will be used to determine public response to redemption <br /> opportunities and operating issues associated with running redemption centers; and <br /> WHEREAS, the funds provided by the State, are derived from an Environmental Protection <br /> Agency federal grant; and <br /> WHEREAS, Hawaii Revised Statutes, Section 46-7, requires that county departments obtain <br /> the consent of the council to enter into agreements with the federal or state governments respecting <br /> action to be taken pursuant to any of the powers granted by law to furnish, expend, and receive any <br /> funds or other assistance in connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those <br /> powers. <br /> <br />
