REPORT OF THE
COMMITTEE ON FINANCE

DATE: April 18, 2006 Re: Comm. No. 800/Res. No. 306-06

PLACE: Council Chambers

TIME: 10:28 a.m.
Council Chair Safarik and Members
Hawaii County Council
Hilo, Hawaii 96720
Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 306-06, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 306-06, transmitted by Director of Finance William Takaba, via Communication

No. 800, dated Apri13, 2006, changes the funding source and the position status of two Deputy
Prosecuting Attorney (temporary) positions under the Drug Task Force Grant program.
In 2003, the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney was a recipient of a U.S. Department of Justice's
Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant award, passed through the Hawaii
Community Foundation (HCF) as part of the Big Island Meth Initiative, which provided for the
establishment of two Deputy Prosecuting (Temporary) positions, one in East Hawaii and one in
West Hawaii. With the grant funding ending in May, the County plans to continue this Drug
Task Force program by funding these two positions and changing their status to permanent.
There was no discussion on this measure.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 306-06
and recommends its adoption.
smc
Hues NOES a&E Ex Respectfully submitted,
ARAKAKI X
HIGA x COMMITTEE ON FINANCE
HOFFMANN X
HOLSCHUH X ~ ~
IKEDA X '
ISBELL X
aACOSSON x VIRGIN A ISBELL, CHAIR
PILAGO X FC REPORT NOD/. ~2777~'
SAFARIK X ADOPTED: MA1 u G LUUI!
