Sayre Memorial Fund and the Gregg Malkin Memorial Fund, respectively.
The Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Fund was established by Dr. Frank and Laura Sayre in
memory of their son, Daniel who lost his life in a tragic accident in Pololu Valley. This
fund annually recognizes the bravery of the Hawaii County Fire Rescue squads and
provides monetary support to purchase rescue equipment. The Gregg Malkin
Memorial Fund, organized under the umbrella of the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Fund,
was established by Glenn and Donna Malkin, in memory of their son Gregg who
perished in a drowning accident offshore of Makuu Drive, Hawaii Paradise Park last
year.
The monetary gifts from these two funds, which are under the stewardship of the
Hawaii Community Foundation, 1164 Bishop Street, Suite 800, Honolulu, Hawaii
96813; will be used to purchase rescue equipment and to contract an instructor for the
"Ropes Courses I, II, and III", for the rescue personnel at the Waiakea and Kailua
Stations. Enclosed are two resolutions to accept the monetary gifts from each of these
funds.
At the start of this fiscal year, $50,000 was budgeted in the Fire's Rescue Equipment -
Private account in the event that donations, gifts or other contributions are received
during the year, by the Hawaii Fire Department. By factoring in the previous monetary
gift of $10,956 received in July, and these two new gifts, the net amount of $50,423
needs to be appropriated into that account. Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance
amending the Operating Budget by appropriating an additional $50,423 to Fire's Rescue
Equipment -Private account.
C ~'uo. 34'3~~J 3'F`f'o-1 An ~1131Nt i 7 fi> Comm.
