COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />1.6 09 <br />RESOLUTION CREATING A WATER SAFETY OFFICER II POSITION FOR THE <br />HAWAII FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />WHEREAS, the Hawaii Fire Department is having difficulties in its recruitment for part-time <br />Water Safety Officer II positions, particularly in the Kona District; and <br />WHEREAS, there are qualified and interested candidates to fill a Water Safety Officer II <br />position if it was a full time position; and <br />WHEREAS, the establishment of a full time Water Safety Officer II, SR-17, position will <br />facilitate better scheduling and beach coverage; and <br />WHEREAS, presently, there are two (2) funded Water Safety Officer II (1/2T) positions <br />vacancies at the respective beach/unit and their funding will be used towards the new position; and <br />WHEREAS, these vacancies will provide the sufficient funding in the Ocean Safety's <br />Regular Salaries and Wages account (010.221.5223.01.011); and <br />WHEREAS, Article V, Section 5-1.3(c) of the Hawaii County Charter states that the Mayor <br />has the power to "Create positions...fortyhich appropriations have been made by the council...". <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF <br />HAWAII that a Water Safety Officer II, SR-17, position be created in the Hawaii Fire Department. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that there should be sufficient funds in the Ocean Safety's <br />Regular Salaries and Wages account (010.221.5223.01.011). <br />
