<br /> <br /> <br /> REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS AND <br /> INTERGOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS <br /> <br /> DATE: November 3, 2009 Re: Comm No. 595/Bill 168 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Ben Franklin Bldg, 2"d Floor <br /> 333 Kilauea Ave. <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> <br /> TIME: 1:48 p.m. <br /> <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> <br /> Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was referred <br /> Communication 595 and Bill 168, reports as follows: <br /> <br /> Bill 168, transmitted via Communication No. 595 from Transit Administrator Tom Brown is an <br /> ordinance requesting an extension of Chapter 18, Article 4, Section 18-90(H), of the Hawaii <br /> County Code 1983 (2005 Edition, as amended), the island-wide Hele-On bus route kokua zone to <br /> December 31, 2010. <br /> <br /> There were three testifiers, all in support of the resolution. <br /> <br /> Transit Agency Director Thomas Brown appeared before the committee with a report outlining <br /> the past successes since the Kokua program was first implemented in 2005. Ridership continues <br /> to rise and September 2009 saw a new record high of more than 80,000 rides provided. <br /> Ridership in 2010 is expected to exceed 1,000,000 for the first time.
