County of Kauai-CM Chock reported that the county is also in budget process. They <br /> are considing how to manage with no TAT funding and looking at what to do with the <br /> incoming federal funding. Working on legislation about: agricultural and vacant <br /> lands usage, caring capacity for incoming tourists, and dealing with cesspools. <br /> 3. County of Maui-CMKing reported that Maui County is also concerned about <br /> overtourism and housing costs being driven up and pricing local residents out due to <br /> Maui being viewed as a safe place to reside right now. Developing legislation to put a <br /> moritorium on building permits for additional expansion in the resort areas. Just <br /> completed budget session including raising hotel tax. Maui will be part of a program <br /> called Circle City Scan Pilot Project about how to develop a circular economy. Maui <br /> put ARPA funds into their budget. <br /> CM Kimball asked if CM King would be on a "Circular Economy"panel for the <br /> conference. CM Kimball also proposed having a separate discussion about tax rates <br /> and all agreed. <br /> 4. City/County of Honolulu-CM Waters reported that they are also in their budget <br /> process. They added$23 million ofARPA money into their budget. Lots of council <br /> business in the news including: leadership positions to fill police &fire chiefs, the <br /> ongoing rail project and two officer shootings. <br /> D. NACo/WIR Report (33:36) <br /> NACo-report submitted by CMKuali`i has many links on it. NACo board just met and talked <br /> about thier summer conference which will be offered virtually and in person. The "Furture of Work" <br /> summit will be held on June 11. <br /> WIR-CM King reported that at the April 15 meeting they talked about new federal funds. New <br /> "Public Lands" County funds is still being worked on by the treasury Dept. But Hawai`i counties may <br /> be eligible because economic hardships due to loss of tourism is one part of the program. Look on <br /> NACo website for eligibility requirements. <br /> V.
