HO'OMALLI AT WAIKOLOA 201 H APPLICATION PG.31
Roads
Existing: Other than a graded and unpaved access route and roadway
extending partially through the site, there are no existing roadways
on the property. Roads in the immediate vicinity include Queen
Kaahumanu Highway and Waikoloa Beach Drive. Queen
Kaahumanu Highway is a predominantly two-lane, two-way major
arterial generally oriented in the north-south direction serving as the
main access between Kona and Kohala. Northeast of the project
site, Queen Kaahumanu Highway intersects Waikoloa Beach Drive
(South). Waikoloa Beach Drive is a predominantly two-way, two-
lane private roadway generally oriented in the east-west direction
and serves as the primary roadway.
Planned: Planned roadway improvements include grading and resurfacing of
an existing driveway providing access from the site to Waikoloa
Beach Drive and development of internal roadways within the
property for circulation for the proposed housing development.
Electrical
Existing: Electrical service to the Waikoloa Resort is provided by the
Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO) and extended underground
from HECO's existing primary distribution system along Queen
Kaahumanu Highway. HECO's distribution system adjacent to the
project area consists of a combination of HECO overhead and
underground facilities routed along the southern boundary of the
project site.
Planned: HECO service and electrical infrastructure will be extended from
the existing underground distribution system fronting the southern
boundary of the property. New underground primary (12 kV)
electrical infrastructure, consisting of duct lines and handholes, will
be extended from the existing HECO primary underground
distribution system to pad mounted transformers and pad mounted
primary switches as needed to support the various buildings and
electrical loads within the development. The pad mounted
transformers, pad mounted switches and underground primary
cables will be provided by HECO. The construction contractor will
provide all equipment pads, ductlines, handholes and secondary
conductors. See Exhibit 25 for details.
Gas
Existing: There is no existing gas service to the property.
Planned: Hawaii Gas indicates that gas service can be provided. The project
intends to use gas for common dryers at this time. See Exhibit 17
(Utility Letters) and Exhibit 25 (Utility Due Diligence Study) for
details.
