Included in this project is a proposed <br /> left turn lane and traffic signal improvements at the Ponahawai Street/Kilauea Avenue intersection. A <br /> location map is attached. <br /> Ordinance 98 62 (effective date July 2, 1998) eliminated 9 parking stalls to accommodate the proposed <br /> left turn lane on Ponahawai Street at Kilauea Avenue. We did not implement Ordinance 98 62 sooner <br /> because the downtown traffic safety project was still in its early stages and had not progressed to <br /> Ponahawai Street. <br /> <br /> To compensate for the loss of these stalls, we will provide six additional long-term parking on the makai <br /> side of Kilauea Avenue fronting the Ben Franklin parking lot. <br /> <br /> We ask for your review and consideration for adoption of the subject amendment.
