Hawaii 96720 <br /> August 1, 2001 <br /> Honorable James Arakaki, Chairman <br /> And Members of the County Council <br /> 25 Aupuni Street <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Dear Councilman Arakaki and Members of the County Council: <br /> RE: Independent Financial Audit <br /> Request for Proposals (FY 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005) <br /> Attached for your review and approval is a resolution that authorizes the Council to procure an independent auditor(s) <br /> and to make payment of funds in future fiscal years to cover afour-year contract. The current four-year contract for an <br /> independent financial audit of the County's financial statements with KPMG, LLP is in its last year. The Council <br /> should proceed with the issuance of a request for proposals, evaluation, award, and execution of the contract in order to <br /> secure an audit firm for the next fiscal year ending June 30, 2002. <br /> The following documents are attached: <br /> 1. A timetable for securing an independent certified public accountant firm. <br /> 2. A draft Request for Proposals (RFP), which has been prepared in consultation with County Controller <br /> (Deanna Sako), DWS Assistant Controller (Rick Sumada), and other counties. <br /> 3. A resolution approving afour-year contract term, the obligation of more than one fiscal year of funds, <br /> and the process of securing an audit firm. <br /> A four-year contract term is again recommended for purposes of economy, consistency and continuity.
