protection. <br /> 6. Special Management Area (SMA): The Special Management Area is a part of the <br /> Coastal Zone Management Program and regulated by the County. The property is not <br /> situated within the Special Management Area. It is located more than three (3) miles <br /> from the nearest coastline and therefore, will not be impacted by coastal hazazd and <br /> beach erosion. There are no identified recreational resources, historic resources, public <br /> access to the shoreline or mountain areas, scenic and open space preserves, coastal <br /> ecosystems, marine resources or other natural and environmental resources in the area. <br /> DESCRIPTION OF PROPERTY AND SURROUNDING AREA <br /> 7. Subject Property: The property is an approximately 6.069-acre parcel fronting <br /> Mamalahoa Highway, two miles south of the junction of Mamalahoa Highway and Palani <br /> Road, south of the Keopu Heights Subdivision. The parcel is gently sloping at a gradual <br /> 10 to I S percent slope, ranging in elevation from 1,100 feet to 1,300 feet above mean sea <br /> level. There is an existing dwelling and sheds on the site. The dwelling will be <br /> renovated or relocated, depending on the preference of the potential owner, one of the <br /> children of the applicant. Aside from the area of the residence, the entire site has been <br /> cleared and cultivated with macadamia nut trees and coffee trees. <br /> 8. Surrounding Zoning/Land Uses: Surrounding properties are zoned Agricultural 1-acre <br /> (A-la) across Mamalahoa Highway to the east, and Agricultural 5-acre (A-Sa) to the <br /> north, west and south. The area is rural in nature. There are a few small, family-type <br /> coffee farms on properties mauka of the Mamalahoa Highway and to the north and south <br /> of the site. The Keopu Cemetery is located less than 700 feet south of the property. <br /> <br /> 9. ALISH: Unclassified. <br /> 10. Land Study Bureau's Detailed Land Classification System: "C" or "Fair". <br /> ] 1. U.S. Soil Survey: HVD, Honuaulu extremely stony silty clay loam, 12 to 20 percent <br /> slopes. This soil is used for coffee and pasture. Small azeas aze used for macadamia <br /> nuts, bananas, citrus fruits, and avocados. <br /> <br /> 12. FIRM: Zone "X", area determined to be outside the 500-year flood plain. <br /> <br /> 13. Flora/Fauna Resources: There were no professionals flora/fauna surveys conducted of <br /> the site. The applicant does not believe that rare or endangered floral or faunal resources <br /> are likely on the site, as the property has been cleared and used as a coffee and <br /> -2- <br /> <br />
