REQUEST: <br /> <br /> <br /> A resolution for Council's approval to create one new Custodian/Groundskeeper I position (60% FTE) to <br /> provide custodial and groundskeeping services for various County facilities in the Ka'u and Puna districts. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> <br /> With the sunset of Act 90 on June 30, 2007 and to comply with settlement of UPW vs. COH, 98-244, the <br /> Department of Public Works must cancel contracts for janitorial and groundskeeping services by <br /> December 31, 2007. To replace these contractual services, we requested for and received 12 <br /> Custodian/ Groundskeeper I positions to clean and maintain our offices and grounds island-wide. Various <br /> departments have requested for our assistance to clean their offices, including sites in Ka'u and Pahoa. <br /> Since the approval of our initial request in October, we have temporarily filled the General Services <br /> Superintendent who has reviewed the island-wide custodial and groundskeeping services requirements. <br /> Due to the extensive travel time between S. Hilo and Ka'u, it has been determined that there should be a <br /> part-time position stationed in Ka'u to service sites in Pahala, Naalehu, Hawaiian Ocean View Estates <br /> and Pahoa. <br /> We are therefore requesting for a part-time, 60% FTE (24 hours/week) Custodian/Groundskeeper I <br /> position. <br /> <br /> Due to the time limitation, please waive this resolution from the Committee on Finance so that it will <br /> proceed for Council's approval. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> SIGNED: DATE: /44-- , <br /> Department Head <br />
