• Represent the County of Hawaii in attending and participating in related meetings with <br />local, state, and federal regulatory agencies including commissions and boards. <br />• Participate in other departmental efforts that promote safety far pedestrian, bicycle and <br />other non-motorized users, i.e. Traffic calming. <br />• Work with the County of Hawaii Police Department to encourage active enforcement of <br />laws and regulations relating to pedestrian and bicyclists. <br />Community Outreach <br />+ Promote walking, hiking and bicycling and serve as an advocate for non-motorized <br />modes of transportation including access and use of public transit. <br />• Prepare, provide, and distribute educational information on bicycle and pedestrian <br />safety and health benefits, including presentations to elected officials, community <br />groups, and schools. <br />• Plan and coordinate special projects and activities {i.e., Safe Routes to Schools) with <br />community partners. <br />• Develop and implement public involvement programs for input on major transportation <br />projects. <br />• Serve as the initial point of contact for citizen requests, input, ideas, complaints, and <br />questions on bicycle and pedestrian planning, sidewalk requests, greenways, and other <br />related facilities. <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES <br />Extensive knowledge of: <br />• Transportation planning; <br />• Urban and rural planning and design; and <br />• Bicycle and Walking Infrastructure design principles. <br />Considerable knowledge of <br />• County and State departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures regarding the <br />work; <br />• Principles and practices of public administration and supervision, and project <br />management, i.e., project scoping, scheduling, contract management, etc.; and <br />• County of Hawaii Zoning Code and Development Review process/procedures. <br />DOH REE KO.
