Flora/Fauna Resources: No professional surveys were conducted of the site, as <br /> portions of the property have been developed. The unimproved area of the site consists <br /> <br /> primarily of buffel grass, pili grass and kiawe trees. According to the applicant, it is <br /> unlikely that any rare or endangered floral or faunal resources would be found on the <br /> <br /> subject site. <br /> 15. Archaeological Resources: An Archaeological Inventory Survey of the properties was <br /> <br /> conducted by William Barrera in February, 1997. The survey revealed one site, a series <br /> of stone walls in one of the gulches. The site was deemed important only for <br /> <br /> informational purposes. By letter dated May 12, 2009, the DLNR Historic Preservation <br /> Division has indicated that no historic properties will be affected because intensive <br /> <br /> cultivation, residential development/urbanization, and previous grubbing/grading has <br /> altered the land, and SHPD previously reviewed this project and mitigation has been <br /> <br /> completed. <br /> 16. Cultural or Native Gathering Rights: According to the applicant, there is no evidence <br /> <br /> of any traditional or customary Native Hawaiian Rights being practiced on the site. <br /> - 17. Public Access: There is no record of a designated public access to the shoreline or <br /> <br /> mountain areas that traverses the properties. <br /> PUBLIC UITIdTIES AND SERVICES <br /> 18. Access: Access to the properties is from Ala Kahua Drive, a paved two-lane private road <br /> <br /> with a 22-foot pavement width within an 80-foot right-of-way. The roads are owned by <br /> Ala Kahua Drive LLC, a subsidiary of Kohala Ranch Development Corporation. Ala <br /> <br /> Kahua Drive intersects with the Akoni Pule Highway approximately 1/2 mile to the west. <br /> 19. Water: Potable water is provided from the private Kohala Ranch Water Company <br /> <br /> (KRWC). The applicant states that the KRWC has indicated that sufficient water can be <br /> made available to the properties. There are two wells on the site that provide irrigation <br /> <br /> water for the garden and a tank with a 50,000 gallon storage capacity for the irrigation <br /> system. <br /> <br /> 20. Wastewater System: There are no municipal sewer systems available in the area. <br /> Wastewater will be disposed of through individual wastewater systems meeting with the <br /> <br /> approval of the Department of Health. <br /> <br /> -3- <br />
