Watercourse
includes specifically designated areas in which substantial damage may occur.
"Watershed" means a bounded hydroloeic systemGl where all of the water,
whether subterranean or surface, may drain into rivers streams, lakes, intermittent
watercourses, estuaries, wetlands, aquifers, and ultimately into the ocean, and which is
linked by that common drainage. Watersheds supply drinking water, are essential to a

healthy ecoloQV for plants and animals, provide recreation and respite, and sustain life.
[(~4~] "Zone A" is the special flood hazazd azea that corresponds to the one-hundred-

year floodplains that are determined in the Flood Insurance Study by approximate

methods. Because detailed hydraulic analyses are not performed for such areas, base
flood elevations or depths have not been determined within this zone.
[(§3~] "Zone AE" is the special flood hazard azea that corresponds to the one-hundred-

year floodplains that are determined in the Flood Insurance Study by detailed methods.
Whole-foot base flood elevations derived from the detailed hydraulic analyses have been

determined at selected intervals within this zone.
14
