Kona Adult Day Center, Inc. <br /> Agency Profile, Page 3 <br /> • KADC opens their program on Holidays giving much needed respite to our caregivers. <br /> * Mary Jo Hill,KADC's program director, conducts two in-services on Alzheimer's <br /> disease for staff: "Complaints of a Dutiful Daughter",and "Caring is Not Enough" <br /> * Kona Kohala Chamber of Commerce mailout raises over$1,200.00. <br /> * West Hawaii Association of Life Underwriters volunteer to paint the interior of KADC. <br /> * KADC is accepted by Combined Federal Campaign in 1995. <br /> **July - September Accomplishments <br /> * Enrollment at KADC has risen to thirty-four. While private and government funding is <br /> at a premium,tuition assistance is available for individuals who are eligible for the <br /> KADC scholarship fund. This limited fund is a result of corporate donations and <br /> KADC volunteer fundraising. The fund is monitored by a committee of the Board <br /> of Directors. <br /> * A successful rummage sale was held on July 22nd. $1,50.00 profit was made. <br /> * The KADC facility was host to a workshop on HiV sponsored by Department of Health <br /> and Dr. Stephen Denzer. Thirty primary care physicians attended,which was <br /> excellent opportunity for local doctors to observe the facility. <br /> * As a result of community need,the Center has begun providing day care service on <br /> Holidays. Caregivers have expressed the difficulty presented by three day <br /> weekends,especially if their family member has Alzheimer's disease. The first <br /> Holiday opening was President's Day in February. The number of individuals <br /> attending has grown with each successive Holiday. Fourth of July attendance was <br /> eleven. This is an excellent service for caregivers who are self-employed or <br /> caregivers who simply need the day off for rest and relaxation. Holidays are <br /> staffed by a registered nurse, a health aide, activity assistant and office personnel. <br /> * Participants resumed weekly howling this month. Each Tuesday,ten KADC participants <br /> meet the clients from Hillhaven,Kona Krafts and Network Enterprises to match <br /> their skills at Kona Bowl. This community outing fulfills the individual's need for <br /> social,recreational and peer support. It is great exercise, too. <br /> * All participants, staff and volunteers enjoyed the Sixth Annual KADC Picnic at Keauhou <br /> Bay Park on August 17th. Everyone participates, regardless of disability or age. <br /> * "I)ig for Diamonds" fundraiser, held August 27th and 28th at Lanihau Center, <br /> successfully entertained the community,earned much-needed revenue for tuition <br /> assistance and raised public awareness of KADC services. <br /> * National Adult Day Care Center Week was celebrated September 17- 23, 1995. A <br /> variety of activities were organized for participants. The highlight of the week was <br /> an Open House on Friday with entertainment,refreshments and activities provided <br /> by the clients. <br /> **October - December Accomplishments <br /> * Annual Friends of KADC Membership Drive took place in November, successfully <br /> reaching our goal of$8,000.00 <br /> * "Papayas for Breakfast" Fundraising event, December 9th,turned <br /> out better than expected. Two hundred plus tickets were sold. Showcasing <br /> the papaya,the brunch included a dozen innovative dishes created by <br /> Chef Wong of the Keauhou Beach Hotel. A local artist sold limited edition <br /> prints, 1(X)%proceeds to KADC. Excellent entertainment. <br /> * Since opening day care on Holidays, attendance has grown each month. <br /> November 10th brought fourteen participants to the Center. <br /> * KADC facility was host to "Advanced Cardiac Life Support"Training workshop, <br /> organized by a local physician. Thirty people attended,many of whom had not <br /> been to the Center before. <br />
