The petition was deemed insufficient on June 5, 2006 on the grounds that the petition "is signed by less than the required number of qualified voters of the County." The petition must contain 4,846 valid signatures to be deemed sufficient. The petition filed on May 17, 2006, contained 3,001 signatures. The petition is deemed to contain 1,366 signatures of qualified voters of the County. This number is 3,480 signatures of qualified voters less than required. Pursuant to Section 11-5(a) and (b), Article XI, Hawaii County Charter, the following findings, which will be presented to the committee as outlined herein, show the particulars wherein the petition is not sufficient. The Save Our Land Citizens' Committee is hereby notified that pursuant to the Section 11-5, Article XI, Hawaii County Charter: I. If a majority of the committee elects to amend the petition, you must notify the Clerk.
