Hawaii County Council-2 Page 2 December 17, 2008 <br />MEMORIALS, CERTIFICATES OF MERIT, AND EXPRESSIONS OF CONDOLENCE <br />9:00 A.M.: STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON COMMUNICATIONS AND ORDER OF <br />RESOLUTIONS <br />COMMUNICATIONS <br />ORDER OF RESOLUTIONS <br />Res. 795-08 Requests the Department of Research and Development to Create and Maintain a <br />(2006-2008): Consumer Education Website Designed to Help Hawaii Island Residents Reduce <br />Their Energy Usage and Costs. {Requests that by March 1, 2009, the Research and <br />Development Department, in partnership with The Kohala Center, create a <br />consumer education website designed to help Hawai`i's residents reduce their <br />energy usage and costs; and that the Director of this Department present an <br />overview of the energy website to the Council by June 30, 2009. } <br />Re: Comm. 1536 <br />Intr. by: Mr. Hoffmann <br />Approve: FESC-8 <br />Res. 816-08 Requests the County of Hawaii to Immediately Initiate a Campaign to Protect <br />(2006-2008): Hawaii Island from the Invasive Little Fire Ant (LFA). (Urges the County's <br />Administration to designate a person(s) to coordinate efforts to control LFA <br />infestations by March 1, 2009; create a taskforce to provide management oversight <br />for the County's response to this crisis and ensure that information from farmers are <br />considered by this taskforce; update the mapping of LFA infestations on the island; <br />advocate at the State level for inspection of landscape materials as well as <br />inspection and testing of all nurseries for the presence of LFA infestations (followed <br />by quarantine and treatment of infected nurseries); mount a LFA public education <br />campaign to provide direction on the prevention and eradication of LFA <br />infestations; seek State and Federal assistance for its efforts concerning the LFA <br />including public education, control, and researching the viable solutions for <br />containment of LFA infestations; present a progress report to the County Council by <br />May 1, 2009 on its efforts to control LFA infestations, including an assessment of <br />possible State, Federal, or private funding sources for research and containment; and <br />strongly urges that necessary funding is allocated in the 2009-2010 Operating <br />Budget. } <br />Re: Comm. 1566 <br />Intr. by: Mr. Hoffmann <br />Approve: EMC-20 <br />
